How To Repair Your Printer If The HP "Firmware Update"
Is Already Installed And Your Printer Has Stopped Working

1. Turn on your printer and set it the way you would for normal printing, as if ready to print. The printer must stay connected for the installation to proceed reliably. Do not use the printer for anything else, and do not turn off the power during the firmware installation.

2.The link to the firmware upgrade above should be hyper linked. If so, single click it. Otherwise open a new tab in your browser and copy and paste the URL I sent into the new browser page, and press Return to start the download to your Downloads folder. This will copy the the firmware upgrade to your Downloads folder.

3. In Windows Explorer navigate to your Downloads Folder. The top file in should be the firmware upgrade file.

4. Double click this file. This will begin the firmware installation.

5. Once the printer and/or computer notifies you that the installation was complete/successful, print a test page or small document to test the printer. It it prints correctly, then your are done with resetting the firmware.

6. If your printer still reports that it will not print because of a non-HP or third party cartridge, it may be caused by an HP printer driver. In Windows Settings, delete the printer and Add Printer, using the Windows default driver, or if it is unavailable, download and install the Basic Driver from the HP Support website. If this still fails, please report the printer model and firmware version in an email to me at jonspcfixitshop AT outlook.com.

7. The next step is to save the copy of the firmware that worked for you, (or a note to yourself that you performed a cold reset). Move or copy it from your Downloads folder to a new folder in Downloads (e.g. HP) so you can find it easily and install it again into your printer if an automatic firmware update causes problems in the future.

8. The final step is to consider making a donation/payment as described below. Keeping up with HP's covert actions and providing solutions has been a huge time commitment. I am retired, living on modest social security/retirement income, and I would very much appreciate any payment, large or small, that you can provide in return for making your printer functional again.

Kind Regards
